In addition to covering all of the Oscar-nominated songs from 1934 through 1993, Sackett includes in the appendices additional information such as the most nominations according to lyricists and composers; films from which the songs have been nominated; and other Oscar-related facts.
Many of the songs and instrumentals written for Hollywood films went on to become jazz standards. Of the 206 Academy Award nominated songs from the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, 50 are on the Jazzstandards.com top 1000 list. Susan Sackett has written interesting abstracts for over 300 Oscar-nominated songs, averaging one page in length, which focus on the people, history, and anecdotes as opposed to the musical analysis.
Susan Sackett is the author of nine books on film and TV. She was the executive assistant to the “Star Trek” creator and has written several books related to the TV series. She also writes teleplays and for televisions series.
