This book is organized by song, and while the profiles of the songwriters are full of personal memories and amusing anecdotes, the emphasis is on the craft of songs such as “All the Things You Are,” “Over the Rainbow,” “Tea for Two,” “I’m in the Mood for Love,” etc. Wilk’s colorful profiles are fun to read and informative. Of the 26 songwriters covered, only three did not write at least a couple of songs that would become jazz standards. They’re Playing Our Song would be a better source for research information if it had an index. Max Wilk has written television shows, musicals, plays, films and 22 books.
