Gershwin himself comments with wit and wisdom on his lyrics which are grouped into arbitrary, often amusing categories. “With Place Names,” for instance, is self-explanatory, but then there is the chapter, “Sound Effects,” which includes songs such as “’S Wonderful” and “They All Laughed” or the chapter “A Gathering of Guidance” which includes “Clap Yo’ Hands” and “Slap That Bass.”
