This is a listing of over 7000 films containing original songs. The first two volumes list films alphabetically with musical and cast credits and often additional notes. Volume three lists films from 1922 to early 1990 chronologically with indices for personnel and song titles. With regard to jazz standards research, this is an excellent source if you need to find the song list for a particular film or the films for a particular song. There are no descriptions or reviews of either songs or films. You can often find the three-volume set used on Amazon for between ten and thirty dollars. If it is not explicitly stated, email the seller to be sure the price is for all three volumes. Ken Bloom has written several books on music in theater and film, among them Broadway: An Encyclopedic Guide to the History, People, and Places of Times Square, American Song: The Complete Musical Theatre Companion 1877-1995, American Song: The Complete Companion to Tin Pan Alley. He also collaborated with Frank Vlastnik on Broadway Musicals: The 101 Greatest Shows Of All Time.
