Tragically the great American composer, George Gershwin, succumbed to a brain tumor at the age of 38. While there are other books on Gerswhin, Schwartz’s biography includes material from the family archives and exclusive interviews. It also delves deeply into his personal life, and the prognosis is not exactly flattering. There is a special section with complete coverage of Gershwin’s compositions and a discography.
Charles Schwartz is the composer of the widely acclaimed “Jazz Symphony,” “Professor Jive” (released on Inner City records, featuring trumper Clark Terry), a professor of music, and an impresario.
