Musicians' Comments

rdgThis tune, originally titled “I Want a Little Girl” is on the bluesier side of jazz. It’s been widely recorded by artists such as Jimmy Witherspoon, Ray Charles, and Joe Turner, although Nat King Cole pulled it squarely into the jazz arena. It’s one of the tracks on the album where we used a cantankerous B3 that only worked for a few minutes at a time. We’d wait until the wheezing B3 would catch its breath and then we’d do a quick take before it died again! You’d never know by the laid-back feel of the musicians on the track.
