Musicians' Comments

“Get Your Kicks on Route 66” is one of those magic tunes that seems to have almost universal appeal. No matter what audience I’m playing for, young or old, rich or poor, it always goes over, most times drawing a round of enthusiastic applause. Perhaps part of its appeal lies in its easy-to-follow 12-bar blues form. But, while it is 12-bar blues, the lyrics flow without stopping, straying from the usual “call and response” structure often expected with the blues. It’s a happy blues which always energizes the audience--and the band as well.
